My name is Kent Williams, and I'm an archery geek. (Well, I'm actually several kinds of geeks in one.) I started this blog because I am an archery enthusiast of many years. Over these years I've learned a lot, mostly through trial-and-error mixed with input from some good folks who know what they're doing and some bad advice from those who don't.
Currently, certified as a USA Archery Level 2 NTS Instructor, a certification level that USA Archery requires for working with Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) teams.
For a professional career, I've really done two things as a grown-up: photography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). For seven years I was a professional photographer, shooting weddings, families, High School seniors, individuals, products, and scenery. I shot too many weddings and got a little burned out, so I eventually got a B.S. and M.S. in GIS and related sciences. I currently work as a GIS Analyst / Solution Engineer, which is a fancy way of saying I work on data and systems that produce, manipulate, analyze, and distribute mapping information.
Back in 2008 I decided I wanted to get into archery. At that time I really wanted to get an Olympic Recurve target bow, but I lived in Maine and if it wasn't a hunting compound bow covered in camo, it wasn't sold. After some advice I eventually bought a used target compound bow. I learned a lot from that experience, including the fact that a surprisingly large percentage of archery shop owners don't actually know what they're talking about with respect to target bows in general. I switched to recurve in 2012 and have been very happy with the switch.
In late 2013, the coach for my daughter's JOAD team needed back surgery, so I took the certification course to become a USA Archery Level 2 instructor.
